No quality control,
I purchased a total of 170 white vinyl tiles from a Home Dynamix vendor. Of these tiles, every one had some kind of manufacturing defect. The tiles were ordered in two batches, the batches had a manufacturing date 10 months apart, but the tiles had similar defects between the two batches which lends to the conclusion that this was not a one-off bad batch, but an overall quality control issue. A total of 43 tiles had defects that were small enough it did not render them unusable. This left 127 tiles with significant defects rendering them unusable. These defects ranged as follows:
Dull surface appearance – The tiles have some texturing, and the raised portions of the texture appeared as though they had been sanded. This created a very dull finish on the raised portions, but the lowered parts of the texture were glossy
Black spots – It appears as though these tiles may have been made on the same machinery as the black tiles without cleaning the machines in between batches. This created black bits of vinyl cast into the surface of some of the tiles.
Black streaks/spotting – There were large black streaks cast into the surface of the tile. Appeared like someone took a paintbrush with black vinyl and wiped it across the tiles just before they went through final heating and molding.
Peel back – This is when the white vinyl layer was torn before application to the tile, but was applied anyways and the torn flap molded into the tile in a peeled back state.
Coloration – Some color variance is expected between batches, however, the first batch I received was gray and the next batch was white. The gray tiles were gray to the point where no reasonable person would consider them to be white or even off-white.
I have initiated a warranty claim with Home Dynamix and will update this review with their handling of these issues.
On a side note, if you visit the Home Dynamix web site, it appears that they may manufacture these tiles somewhere in the northeast US. However, there is not one side of the tile box that is not marked “Made in China”.

|When does white become gray?,
Unlike the other reviews, I didn’t see any quality issues – all of the tiles arrived in good condition ( although I only ordered (1) box). Only disappointment was the ‘white’ was decidedly gray-ish compared to the other whites in my bathroom (‘snow’ white tile, gelcoat brilliant white fiberglass tub, etc).
Color is too off to use in my application. Backing was tacky although appeared to be designed to tolerate repositioning and/or heat gun removal. ( I compare this to something like wood veneer which certainly doesn’t tolerate repositioning).
Makes me wonder if Amazon needs to publish a Pantone color wheel or something for items such as these?

|Hard to find anymore,
It’s pretty cheap but, what the hey, it filled in an existing floor with black and white 12″ tile. It’s slightly thinner than what is there now and the surface is like a thin papery plastic layer that peels off about like the backing for the self sticky. And speaking of the self stiky…it doesn’t really stick that well.
